How Can We Improve US Healthcare?

US Ranks Dead Last In Healthcare Again

The results are in. It’s been proven that out of six countries, the US healthcare system has ranked dead last again. Americans spend more than double on healthcare as opposed to Canada, Britain, Germany, The Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand. Despite this, Americans get the least amount of care for their money and have the poorest access to primary and after-hours care. It is estimated that 46 billion US citizens are uninsured. That’s 15 percent of the population going without basic healthcare in a supposedly wealthy and thriving superpower. What’s worse, it is estimated that ¾ of our personal income growth will go toward healthcare in just ten years.

President Obama’s Healthcare Reform

Obamacare, which passed in March of 2010, is healthcare reform designed to improve US healthcare by providing the largest middle class tax cuts in history.

Natural Ways To Heal Candida

Posted by admin on June 27, 2010 in Natural Remedies with No Comments

If you suffer from so many recurrent yeast infections, you could practically buy stock in Monistat, this is an article you need to read. The symptoms of a yeast infection are vaginal itching, burning, thick, cottage-cheese-like discharge and painful intercourse. Though candida yeast can be passed through sexual contact, if you are prone to recurrent infections, your immune system may be compromised due to a few basic factors.

Let’s take a look at some items in your home that may be contributing factors, eliminate them and give you some natural ways to heal candida.

Bathroom

If you’re like most women, you probably use feminine products such as panty liners, pads and tampons, right? The problem with most commercial hygiene products is they are processed with bleach, artificially scented and in the case of pads, have a gel core. Bleach and artificial scents can cause irritation and disrupt the PH balance of delicate areas. Also, the gel core designed to trap and lock in moisture during that time of the month has been reported to increase irritation because it also traps natural moisture suffocating your skin and drying you out.

“Wait. You’re not going to tell me I should use a sea sponge or something are you?”

Is Your Microwave Making You Fat?

Posted by admin on June 27, 2010 in Digestive Health with No Comments

If you’re like most people, you love fast food. Not necessarily the kind you buy from the drive-thru and wolf down on your lunch break but the kind you reheat in your favorite modern convenience: The microwave.

Adults are fifty percent more obese than they were in the 1970s and children are a whopping three times as obese today as they were thirty-five years ago. That’s no coincidence. It’s due to the increase in the consumption of “convenience foods” such as fast food, ‘TV dinners’ and microwave cooking.

Fast food and chemical-laden frozen dinners are pretty intuitive. You only have to read their ingredients and caloric content to know they are unhealthy. (Heck, you only have to look at some of them.) With microwave cooking, it’s a little tricky. After all, you may be a very healthy eater who chooses organic poultry, meat and vegetables and that’s great! The problem is, when you take said foods out of your refrigerator and reheat them in the microwave, you’re destroying all of the nutritional content on your plate! This lack of nutrition weakens your immune system and makes you more vulnerable to disease.

Improve Your Digestive Health Through Massage

3 Hands-On Techniques To Heal A Sluggish Digestive System

by Elaine Degrass

Massage manipulates soft tissues to maintain good health and well-being in your body. This type of therapy can relax and revitalize both the mind and the body. A proper functioning digestive system is one of the many goals that can be reached through massage.

Why it Works

Massage can help improve your digestion for several reasons. The first is that certain massage techniques can increase the metabolism of nutrients and antioxidants. This increased speed helps to flush out and neutralize the toxins. When there are fewer toxins that are present, the digestive system can work to its maximum potential. The second reason that massage also increases peristalsis. Peristalsis is an involuntary contraction of the muscles in the intestine. Matter in the intestine will move along more quickly and constipation is eliminated. Finally, massage encourages a greater release of enzymes in the body. Enzymes are needed to break down food, and they allow nutrients to be more easily absorbed. When more nutrients are in the body, every part of the body runs more effectively, including the digestive system.

Esalen Massage

Esalen massage combines Oriental and Swedish origins. Many professional massage therapists claim that the Esalen style is the best for relaxation and reducing stress. It is performed with a light and gentle in touch, but works the deep tissues. By using slow and long strokes, it is pain free and extremely effective. When the muscles are clenched and tight, they promote the release of stress hormones in the brain. Esalen massage allows them to relax and stop the producing the hormones that slow down the digestive system.

Kinesiology Massage

Kinesiology is a unique form of therapy that utilizes a muscle testing approach to find imbalances that may be causing problems within the body. It began as a form of Chinese acupuncture based on chi energy, and evolved to the massage technique that is practiced today. Many licensed chiropractors perform kinesiology in their office to diagnose their patients. Some people are experiencing pain because of their slow digestion without even realizing it. The doctor can use kinesiology massage therapy to improve the digestion through a series of motions. There is a large focus on the spine and nerves in an effort to restore balance to the structure of the skeleton. When balance is achieved, the body will work together as a whole as opposed to separate parts doing their respective functions.

Mayan Abdominal Massage

Whereas the previously mentioned methods focus on the entire body to improve the functions of the digestive system, Mayan abdominal massage goes directly to the source. It is practiced around the world to cure digestion and stomach problems. It can help to relieve indigestion, bloating, gas, or undiagnosed pain in the abdominal area. Mayan abdominal massage is even reported to aid in the function of reproductive organs; however, no conclusive studies have been performed.

Remember…..

It is important to keep in mind that these massage techniques are not to be viewed as an all-inclusive cure to digestive problems. They are methods to revitalize and rejuvenate slow a slow acting or toxin-ridden digestive system, but serious problems must be brought to the attention of a doctor. However, if you are certain that your digestive problems are not due to an extreme medical issue, massage can be of great help. It can help you to feel lighter, pain free, and overall happier with the well-being of your body.
