Don’t Chew the Gum – Chewing Gum Dangers to Health

Gum Causes Poor Digestion and Cancer

Gum Causes Poor Digestion and Cancer

You could be one of the most health-conscious people in the world and still being doing serious harm to your health if you chew gum. The chemicals in chewing gum make it horrible for your health. And that’s not the only reason gum is bad for you.

Dangerous Chemicals in Gum

  • Aspartame

Aspartame is one of the worst chemicals in gum you can consume. This synthetic sweetener is a potent excitotoxin that has over 92 different symptoms associated with it. An excitotoxin over-stimulates brain cells and causes them to die off by the truck-load. Aspartame has been linked to the development of migraines, muscle tics, multiple sclerosis, and brain tumors.

  • Food Dyes

Food dyes like Red #40 and Yellow #5 have been reported to cause serious health problems. Red #40 has been linked to the development of cancer while Yellow #5 causes behavioral problems in children. Published reports have suggested that parents who remove food dyes from their hyperactive child’s diet note amazing improvements.

  • Titanium Dioxide

Titanium dioxide is another reason gum is bad for you. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classifies this common gum additive as a “possible carcinogen to humans”.

  • BHT

This toxic preservative has been linked to liver failure and severe gastrointestinal disorders. Unfortunately, most chewing gum brands contain BHT.

  • Sodium Stearate

This additive has also been shown to cause excitotoxicity in the brain.

Chewing Gum Harms Your Digestive System

As if the chemicals in gum weren’t bad enough, chewing gum is really bad for your digestive system. When you put a piece of gum into your mouth, the artificial sweeteners and flavors cause your mouth to water and your digestive juices to flow. Your body thinks you’re about to consume food so it makes preparation. When no actual food gets into the stomach, this unused acid can cause bloating, stomach discomfort, and gas.

When you chew gum all the time, you waste essential stomach acid make digestive problems like acid reflux, constipation, and indigestion worse.

Chewing Gum Release Mercury from Fillings

Gum is especially dangerous to your health if you have mercury fillings. Experimental studies have shown that habitual gum chewers with dental fillings have higher levels of mercury in their bodies than those who do not chew regularly. Pregnant women with fillings should never chew gum as this could result in mercury toxicity to the unborn child.

Choose Healthier Chewing Gum

If, every once in the while, you want to chew some gum, try Glee gum. Glee gum is all-natural, gluten free, and non-GMO. It loses its flavor quickly, which means you can chew it long enough to get your gum fix but not so long your digestion suffers. (I’m chewing some right now.)

Store-bought chewing gum is really bad for your health. Avoid it. If you’ve got a hankering for gum, chew some Glee gum. It’s the only one I’ve found that doesn’t contain some horrible additive that could eventually kill you.
