The “Lazy Vegan” Way to Treat Migraines Naturally – [Video]

It is estimated that over 30 million people in the United States suffer from migraine headaches. If you’re prone to them, you’re familiar with their debilitating symptoms.



They include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Pulsating pain on one side of the head

  • Flickering spots and lines before your eyes

  • Intense sensitivity to light

  • Sinus pressure

  • Eye pain

  • Sensitivity to smell

  • Nausea and vomiting

  • Slurred speech

  • Muscle weakness

  • Numbness in the limbs

  • Double vision

  • Vertigo

  • Fatigue

 

Prescription and over-the-counter drugs may lessen pain severity for a while, but they won’t treat the underlying cause of the problem. Furthermore, OTC and prescription drugs can cause unwanted side effects and worsen your health over time.


Andrew Perlot of Raw-Food-Health.net offers some unique options to treat migraines naturally. In this video, he talks about a study conducted on female migraine sufferers, which linked a low-fat, vegan diet to dramatic symptom relief. 35 out of 40 participants who cut out high-fat foods, including meat, dairy, and eggs reported significant reduction in pain.

 

At first glance, it appeared as though the extreme reduction in fat intake was responsible for the improvement. However, it was discovered that only 28 out of the 42 participants completely abstained from animal products. (Hence the “Lazy Vegan” diet.) Yet these individuals still experienced the same relief!

 

It was proposed that the low-fat diet wasn’t directly responsible for decreasing the severity of headaches, but rather the absence of highly-processed foods containing gluten, food dyes, and artificial sweeteners that did the trick.

 

It was also suggested that the increased intake of antioxidant-rich vegetables and fruits helped treat the migraine headaches naturally. After all, the antioxidants in these foods provide powerful anti-inflammatory benefits and help clear the body of accumulated toxins.

 

In this video, Andrew mentions the raw vegan diet and the elimination diet for migraines, suggesting trying the former only if the latter fails.

I suggest doing it the other way around. If you’re struggling with migraine headaches, find out what’s triggering them first by doing an elimination diet.

 

This means cutting out:

 

  • Gluten

  • Dairy

  • Eggs

  • Soy

  • Corn

  • Citrus

  • Food Dyes

  • Artificial Sweeteners

  • MSG

 

Do this for a period of six weeks and no less. During that time, you should be eating more organic produce as well as meat, poultry, and fish. Once the six-week period is over, reintroduce a generous amount of one eliminated food each day to test for a reaction. When you find the culprit food or foods, you’ll know.
