4 Reasons Natural Chronic Pain Treatments Have Failed You

Spread the love

Yeah, I tried a gluten-free diet for a week once. It doesn’t work.”

I bought the most expensive organic multivitamin on the planet, and I’m still in pain. Forget this!”

I cringe when I hear these kinds of statements. Back in the early 2000s, when I was first diagnosed with gluten intolerance, ITP, and a few other food and environmental allergies, I eagerly told everybody around me that it was possible to put chronic pain into remission naturally.

Instead of gratitude and joy, I was met with skeptical stares, raised eyebrows, and humoring smiles. “Sure, changing your diet works. And I’m Santa Clause.” Oh, boy. Others might have given up at this point, but this only fueled my tenacity and passion for the subject of natural health.

It’s 14 years later, and I’m still here saying the same things I’ve always said. Only now, I have some science on my side.

If you’re living with a chronic pain, autoimmune, or allergic condition that no natural method has touched, and you’re tired of hearing about all this “woo” people are selling to make a buck, you’re not alone.

And you’re right, there are scam artists out there. There are also plenty of people who genuinely want to help.

I’m happy to say I’m one of the latter.

4 Reasons Natural Chronic Pain Treatments Have Failed You

There is a reason natural pain treatments haven’t worked for you (and it isn’t that they don’t work).

Let’s break it down:

1. You’re Putting the Cart Before the Horse

It may be an old-fashioned statement, but it still holds true. In order for a horse to successfully pull a cart, you put the horse first and secure the cart to its back. Now, imagine doing that in reverse; securing the back of the cart to the front of the horse. You wouldn’t get very far, would you?

Almost every single person who is new to natural treatments starts the same way.

That is, they’ll try an organic supplement, a gluten-free diet, or a natural pain reliever, and realize, a month later, that they’ve felt no change. They may even feel worse! This inevitably leads to the (understandable, but false) conclusion that natural treatments are a nothing but “snake oil” and shouldn’t be bothered with.

Actually, the real reason natural treatments haven’t worked for you is because you’re approaching the process in the wrong order. You have to first eliminate toxins from your immediate surroundings, then get rid of the remaining ones inside your body, and then start working natural pain treatments into the mix.

2. You’re Eating, Breathing, and Bathing in Toxins

Let’s back up a bit. If you’re like most people, you eat fast food, frozen meals, and home-cooked meals only when you have the time and energy to prepare them.

You enjoy a good diet soda because the taste of plain water just doesn’t do it for you. You wash your dishes with bargain dish detergent, your body with name-brand soap, and you use makeup and hair products when you plan to leave the house.

While there’s nothing wrong with any of these actions, there is something very wrong with what these products are doing to you.

  • Gluten

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. It’s what gives bread and pasta that stretchy consistency that makes it so much fun to eat.

Unfortunately, those who are gluten intolerant often struggle with chronic bloating, belching, flatulence, abdominal pain, diarrhea, allergic rhinitis, post-nasal drip, muscle aches, brain fog, behavioral problems, learning difficulties, and emotional instability.

If you have fibromyalgia, a gluten-free diet may be one of the most effective natural treatments you can use to manage your chronic pain.

One study revealed that a gluten-free diet significantly reduced gastrointestinal complaints, fatigue, and brain fog in those with fibromyalgia. For 15 of the patients studied, the condition went into complete remission!

  • Aspartame

Aspartame is an artificial sweetener often found in diet soda, gum, candy, breakfast cereal, and other highly-processed foods.

A Polish study showed that aspartame can harm the central nervous system, something that should be taken into careful consideration by those living with chronic conditions that affect the central nervous system such as fibromyalgia, Lyme disease, MS, and mental illness.

The study showed that aspartame is broken down into phenylalanine (50%), aspartic acid (40%), and methanol (10%) when metabolized by the body.

In high doses, aspartic acid causes neuronal hyperexcitability, which can lead to early brain cell death. Methanol has been linked with vision impairment, depression of the central nervous system, metabolic acidosis, and coma.

  • Formaldehyde

One study revealed that individuals with long-term inhalation exposure to formaldehyde showed evidence of autoantibodies (proteins that attack the body’s healthy tissues), immune system activation, and anti-HCHO-HSA antibodies (antibodies to formaldehyde-human serum albumin).

This immune-sensitizing chemical can be found in household cleaning products, makeup, hair care products, and medicated creams, as well as paint-stripping agents, primers, and paint.

Since you’ll rarely see the actual word ‘formaldehyde’ in a list of ingredients, avoiding it can be a bit tricky.

Here is a list of other names this chemical goes by:

Formalin

Methylene oxide

Methanal

Morbicid acid

Methyl aldehyde

Oxymethylene

3. Your Body Is Still Reacting to Toxins That Aren’t There Anymore

Even after you’ve rid your household of every synthetic chemical possible, those chemicals will remain deep inside your body tissues and fat. This is what triggers chronic pain and inflammation weeks, months, or even years after exposure.

BPA, a chemical used in plastic that has been shown to trigger heart disease, diabetes, and liver failure, can have a negative effect on the body, even after it is no longer present in the immediate environment.

This is why it’s so important to clear these chemicals from your system before using any natural treatments for chronic pain.

4. You’re Giving up Too Quickly

Since your chronic condition didn’t appear right away, it isn’t reasonable to expect it to disappear after trying a new diet for only a couple of weeks. Our society may be all about quick-fix solutions, but our bodies just don’t work that way.

It takes time for your system to rid itself of enough toxins before it can properly absorb and make use of the nutrients you’re using to heal it. You may not even notice a real difference until six months in, and that’s completely normal.

You may also notice your symptoms worsening as you detoxify and transition to a healthier diet and lifestyle. Again, this is normal. Don’t give up. Don’t back down. Now is the time to stick it out, be patient with yourself, and look forward to a brighter future!
