7 Incredible Home Remedies to Treat Joint Pain

An aching joint can be agonizing. While it might not be fatal, it can certainly make life inconvenient. The good news is, you can count on nature to help heal the joint pain in a safer manner.

 

Imagine:

You were just climbing the office stairs, and all of sudden your leg seized up with a horrible cramp. This kept you standing by, helpless until somebody finally came along.

 

Have you experienced something similar to this? Of course, the situations can vary; it can be when you were jogging in the park, traveling to a holiday destination, and so on. But, the fact is, you suffered severe joint pain.

#1 Dandelion Leaves

 

The anti-inflammatory properties and the presence of vitamins A and C in high quantity make dandelion leaves an ideal remedy to help repair damaged tissue. These leaves also contain linoleic and linolenic acid, which are essential fatty acids. They aid in suppressing inflammation and regulating immune response. You can add them to your salad, or simply brew tea with them.

 

Here’s the remedy;

 

You will need 1 teaspoon of dried dandelion leaves or 3 teaspoons of fresh. Add them to 1 cup of boiling water and strain. You need to drink it twice a day. Here’s a word of caution, though… be prepared for its bitter taste!

 

You can also make a salad. Simply toss the green veggies along with the dandelion leaves and a dash of extra virgin olive oil.

 

#2 White Willow Tea

This remedy has been used since time immemorial. It was the Greek physician, Hippocrates, who wrote about it in 5th century BC. It is also called ‘ancient aspirin’. Having an active ingredient called salicin, it is highly effective. Being a naturally-occurring element, it results in less irritation and side effects as compared to modern aspirin.

 

Here’s the remedy;

 

Just 2 teaspoons of powdered or chipped white willow bark are all you need. Boil 1 cup of water and add powdered (or chipped) white willow bark. Leave it to infuse for 10 to 15 minutes before you remove it from heat. Cover it, and allow it to steep for 30 minutes more. Add honey and lemon to taste.

 

#3 Pectin and Grape Juice

While grape juice is said to help with inflammation, pectin, which is a water-soluble carbohydrate, keeps the cell walls together. The amalgamation heals the synovial tissue, making it more elastic and lubricated, which could result in pain-free movement.

 

Here’s the remedy;

 

You need 1 tablespoon of liquid pectin and 8 oz. of grape juice for this. Blend them together and drink the mixture twice a day. Just a week or two will be sufficient for visible results.

 

#4 Turmeric and Ginger Tea

Both of these ingredients are anti-inflammatory. And the combination is said to lower the levels of two enzymes that cause inflammation.

Here’s the remedy;

 

Boil 2 cups of water and add ½ teaspoon of both ground ginger and ground turmeric. Bring it to a simmer for 10 to 15 minutes. Finally, strain it, add honey, and enjoy.

 

#5 Peppermint and Eucalyptus Oil

Having both analgesic and pain-relieving properties, peppermint and eucalyptus can induce a cooling sensation which quickly overrides the feeling of discomfort.

 

Here’s the remedy;

 

Mix together 5 to 10 drops of eucalyptus and peppermint oil. To this, you can add 1 to 2 tablespoons of any carrier oil (just to dilute the essential oil). Store the blend in a dark glass bottle, and rub it into your joints when they ache.

 

#6 Juniper Berry Tea

Juniper berries are said to be rich in a component called terpinen-4-ol. Basically, it is the same component that suppresses monocytes, the white blood cells that respond to signals of inflammation. Regular usage reduces uncomfortable inflammation.

 

Here’s the remedy;

 

A tablespoon of dried juniper berries is sufficient for one dose. To make this tea, bring 1 cup of fresh water to a boil and pour it over 1 tablespoon of dried juniper berries in a mug. Let it steep for 20 minutes before straining. Honey can always be an addition.

 

Note: As a precaution, this remedy is not recommended for pregnant women.

 

#7 Blackstrap Molasses:

Calcium, potassium, magnesium, and so on… all these valuable minerals are present in blackstrap molasses. This is the reason it helps greatly in relieving the symptoms of arthritis and joint pain. Also, it regulates muscle function and strengthens your bones.

 

Here’s the remedy;

 

A tablespoon of blackstrap molasses added to 1 cup of fresh, warm water is all you need. Just stir it gently, and drink it once a day.
