Keep Heart Disease at Bay with a Solid Exercise Regime

As the saying goes, 50 may look like the new 40, but ask anyone that age, and it often doesn’t feel like it. But even though those older than 50 may not be able to do everything they did exactly the way they used to when they were younger, there are plenty of ways to work in a heart healthy exercise regimen to reduce the risk for heart disease.

The journal Clinics in Sports Medicine reported an average 20 percent to 30 percent decrease in cardiac output by the age 65. Oxygen absorption decreases about 9 percent for sedentary men and 5 percent for sedentary women per decade. The maximum moving heart rate also decreases about 10 beats per minute per decade, though the resting heart rate alters little with age.
